Project Overview

The Route 202, Section 700 Parkway starts at Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Upper Gwynedd and Lower Gwynedd townships, Montgomery County (right, top picture) and ends at the Route 611 Interchange in Doylestown Township, Bucks County (right, bottom picture). This approximately nine-mile long Parkway on new alignment runs generally in a corridor between Upper State Road and Stump Road. The proposed Parkway is planned to be a four-lane road with five-foot wide paved shoulders (bicycle lanes) between Route 63 and Route 463 (Horsham Road), and a two-lane road with five-foot wide paved shoulders (bicycle lanes) between Route 463 (Horsham Road) and the Route 611 Interchange.

Two connector roads are proposed between the Parkway and Route 309. Connector A is a two-lane road located to the northwest of the Parkway, while Connector B is a one- lane directional ramp serving motorists traveling north on the Parkway. The portion of existing Knapp Road between Route 309 and the Parkway is also planned to provide access the Parkway from Route 309.

Included in the proposed project are bridges carrying the Parkway over Route 309, Almshouse Road and New Britain Road as well as structures to take the Parkway under Pickertown Road and Wells Road. A four-span bridge over the Neshaminy Creek is proposed to minimize impacts to this waterway and floodplain. At grade intersections on

the Parkway are proposed at Knapp Road, Connector A ,
Horsham Road, County Line Road, Limekiln Pike, Bristol Road and Lower State Road. Roadway improvements will be made on Limekiln Pike from just east of the Parkway to just west of Upper State Road. These improvements include widening of Limekiln Pike to five lanes and adding left turn lanes on Upper State Road at the Limekiln Pike intersection.

Road improvements on Upper State Road are planned to extend 500 feet north and south of Limekiln Pike.
Improvements are also planned on Bristol Road, which will extend from just east of the Parkway to just west of Upper State Road. These improvements include widening Bristol Road to five lanes in the area of the Parkway and then reducing to a three-lane road between the Parkway and Upper State Road. The plan also calls for adding left turn lanes on Upper State Road at the Bristol Road intersection. The improvements on Upper State Road extend 500 feet north and south of Bristol Road.

The Parkway intersection with Lower State Road will include improvements on Lower State Road just west of the intersection through the Wells Road intersection to the east. Improvements on Wells Road under the Parkway will extend from Radcliffe Drive to Vale View Drive.

The proposed Parkway’s northern terminus will be at the existing Route 202/Route 611 cloverleaf interchange in Doylestown. Physical improvements are expected to stay within the interchange’s existing highway right-of-way.

Approximately 11 culvert crossings of waterways and wetlands are included in the proposed project. The design includes crossings with natural bottoms, where feasible as part of the Parkway design approach. Stormwater Management facilities and other water quality Best Management Practices (BMP’s) are planned and will be included in the project.

An independent, 12-foot wide Shared Use Path (SUP) with 2-foot wide grass shoulders are planned for the entire length of the project to serve walkers and bicyclists. Four (4) trailhead parking facilities located adjacent to the Parkway on Route 309, County Line Road, Bristol Road and New Britain Road are proposed in the current plan.
