<description>The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will host an Open House Plans Display for the upcoming project to rehabilitate the structurally deficient Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) Bridge over Little Neshaminy Creek in Horsham and Montgomery townships, Montgomery County on Tuesday (Dec. 14) at 7 p.m.

The Open House meeting will be held at the Horsham Township Community Center at 1025 Horsham Road in Horsham.

Representatives from PennDOT and its project team will meet with citizens, present details on the project and discuss the proposed plan to rehabilitate the historic stone-arch bridge that was built in 1838 and upgraded in 1969.

PennDOT is presently preparing engineering plans for the rehabilitation of the two-span, two-lane structure that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction is expected to start in summer or early fall 2011.

The proposed improvement plan consists of rebuilding the walls on the arch structure; replacing the bridge deck; placing a stone veneer on the parapets utilizing stone from the existing bridge; reducing the length of a wing wall at the northwest corner of the bridge to enhance driver sight distance; re-pointing the masonry stone structure; and installing new guiderail.

Last May, the bridge was restricted to one southbound lane of traffic due to severe structural deterioration of the spandrel wall, which is on the arch and rises up to the deck. Northbound Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) traffic is currently being detoured over Route 463 (Horsham Road), Kenas Road and County Line Road.

The bridge, which is posted with a five-ton weight restriction, is 43 feet long and 26 feet wide. It carried 9,200 vehicles a day prior to being restricted to southbound-only traffic.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.

King of Prussia – Construction-related lane restrictions will be in place, weather permitting, on several roads next week (Jan. 10-14) along the Route 202 corridor in Montgomery and Bucks counties as work continues to build the Route 202 Parkway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) will continue to be impacted for utility construction and widening, with flaggers reducing travel to a single lane between Hancock Road and Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships on Monday through Friday (Jan. 10-14) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Daytime lane closures and periodic stoppages also may occur on Route 63 (Welsh Road) on Monday through Friday (Jan. 10-14) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for widening between Stump Road and Route 202 (DeKalb Pike).

On County Line Road at the intersection with Route 202 (Butler Avenue) in New Britain and Montgomery townships, periodic lane restrictions may be in place Monday through Friday (Jan. 10-14) from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for ongoing gas line installation. This work is part of the project to widen County Line Road between Route 202 and Stump Road at the approaches to the Parkway.

Flaggers also may be in place to direct a single lane of traffic on Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Stump Road and Route 202 (Butler Pike), and on Upper State Road, between County Line Road and Pickertown Road on Monday through Friday (Jan. 10-14) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Construction at both these Warrington Township locations is underway to widen roads as they approach the Parkway.

Wells Road in Doylestown Township remains detoured for Parkway construction between Lower State and Turk roads, and Detweiler Road is closed permanently between Stump and Upper State roads in Warrington Township.

Drivers should anticipate delays at these work zones and PennDOT advises them to add additional time for travel through these areas.

All activities are part of PennDOT’s $200 million project to build the nine-mile long Route 202 Parkway in Bucks and Montgomery counties and to widen and improve roads approaching the Parkway.

<description>Daytime Lane Closures on Route 202, Route 63, County Line Road for Parkway Construction

Lower State Road in Doylestown Township to Close Monday in Both Directions for Bridge Construction

King of Prussia - Motorists will encounter daytime travel restrictions on Route 202 (DeKalb Pike), Route 63 (Welsh Road) and County Line Road next week (Jan. 9-13) for Route 202 Parkway construction, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) lane closures are scheduled from Swedesford Road through the intersection with Route 63 (Welsh Road) in Upper Gwynedd, Lower Gwynedd and Montgomery townships on Monday through Friday (Jan. 9-13) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for road widening and curb construction.

Lane closures also may occur on Route 63 (Welsh Road) between Stump Road and Route 202 (DeKalb Pike) on Monday through Friday (Jan. 9-13) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for the installation of drainage pipes and inlets.

Travel restrictions are scheduled on County Line Road between Route 202 (Butler Avenue) and Stump Road in Montgomery and New Britain townships on Monday through Friday (Jan. 9-13) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for drainage, utility and road widening operations.

In addition, Lower State Road will be closed in both directions between Bristol and Almshouse roads in Doylestown Township starting Monday (Jan. 9), for bridge construction unrelated to the Parkway. This travel restriction – which is located near the Parkway construction area – is an expansion of a partial detour that has been in place since Lower State Road was closed to southbound traffic only in April 2011. The new bridge is expected to open in Dec. 2012.

Pickertown Road in Warrington Township also remains closed and detoured between Stump and Upper State roads until mid-2012 for construction of a bridge over the Parkway.

Drivers should anticipate delays and add extra time for travel through the construction areas. All planned activities are contingent on the weather.

<description>PennDOT to Close Lower State Road over Neshaminy Creek in Doylestown Township for Bridge Replacement

King of Prussia – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that northbound and southbound Lower State Road will be closed and detoured between Bristol Road and Tamened Avenue in Doylestown Township, Bucks County beginning Monday, Jan. 9 for bridge replacement.

Northbound Lower State Road was closed April 18, 2011.

The project was originally scheduled to finish in Aug. 2012, but the completion date was pushed back to June 2013 due to utility and construction delays due to the Route 202 Parkway project. With a total closure the new bridge is expected to open in Dec. 2012.

“We decided that it would be better to close Lower State Road to expedite the completion of the new bridge,” PennDOT District Executive Lester C. Toaso said. “The project was delayed by utility relocation issues and Lower State Road being used as a detour for a section of the Route 202 Parkway project.”

During construction, northbound and southbound Lower State Road through traffic will be detoured over Bristol Road, Route 202 (Butler Pike) and Tamened Avenue. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

Crews are replacing the existing five-span, reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new three-span, composite pre-stressed concrete I-beam structure.

The current bridge, which was built in 1930, is 24 feet wide and 212 feet long. The new structure will be 40 feet wide with two travel lanes and two shoulders. The bridge carries 13,543 vehicles a day.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. is the general contractor on the $3,475,417 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds.
